I saw an error message about an incorrect ZIP Code but I'm in Canada, so what does this mean?
This error is displayed when you have entered a postal code or zip code that could not verified by your credit card's issuing bank. To correct this error, you must update your billing address either in “Account Information” or on file with your financial institution so that they match.
You must provide exactly the same street address and postal code that your bank has on file for a transaction to be approved by our payment processor -- usually this is the address that your statement is sent to.
The address information you provide to us is passed along to our payment processor who verifies it against the information your financial institution has on file for you. If there is a discrepancy between the information you provided and what your bank has on file, our payment processor will display an error message.
This step, called Address Verification, is performed as an important validation to verify that your purchase is a legitimate and authorized use of your credit card. This verification approach can protect you from fraudulent use of your credit card.
In many cases, this discrepancy is due to not updating a residential address on file with a bank after moving from one address to another. In other instances, the discrepancy arises from case sensitivity or the inclusion (or exclusion) of hyphens, spaces, etc. Either way, this means that there are differences between the information entered when creating your account and the information your bank has on file.
It is possible that this error will lead to a pending transaction on your statement. When the transaction is blocked, the payment processor requests that your financial institution places a hold on funds. The holds placed by financial institutions are usually removed within 2-3 business days, however they sometimes persist for up to 7 business days. If you experience a hold that persists longer than 7 days you should contact your financial institution to have the hold removed. ‘
